THE ARTIST

Joeann Pearson is a self taught artist. She was born in 1968 in Peterborough, Ontario.

Peterborough/Kawartha is surrounded by lakes and forests and is a popular cottage area. Although she grew up in the city her visits to the Kawartha area kept her in touch with her love of nature which inspires her work. The artist grew up in the Beaches area of Toronto.

The Toronto Beaches has a large artists community started by hippies who flocked to the area in the sixties and seventies. Being exposed to their creative energy and willingness to delve in to different art forms was also a big influence.

Besides nature, religion and culture influence her work. Although her grandparents were Irish/English Catholics, her mother converted to Hinduism when the artist was young so she was exposed to eastern culture.

During her childhood she spent time in foster care where among others she lived with families from Jamaica, French Canada and Norway. A lover of art in all it's forms, her favorite is surrealism.

In her little spare time she enjoys drawing surrealist type sketches that are influenced by emotion and imagination.

Her glass art however is creative expression. It comes from the love of working with her hands to make art that is visually beautiful.

The artist and her two children now live in Toronto after spending 10 years in Guelph, Ont.
